POONCH, JULY 09: The Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) Jammu & Kashmir in collaboration with the District Red Cross Society Poonch, today organised a Drug De-Addiction Awareness and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) Awareness Programme at Government Higher Secondary School (Boys), Mendhar, as part of the 100-Day Nasha Mukt Campaign launched under the guidance of the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir.

The programme aimed to educate students on the harmful effects of drug abuse, promote a healthy and drug-free lifestyle and equip participants with life-saving skills through CPR training.

Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Mendhar Imran Kataria and Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Mendhar attended as chief guests and appreciated the initiative, urging students to stay away from drugs, adopt healthy lifestyles and contribute towards building a drug-free society. The SDM highlighted the social and health consequences of drug addiction and appealed to students to become ambassadors of the campaign by spreading awareness within their families and communities.

A special team from IRCS Jammu, comprising Dr Rita Kumari (Medical Officer), Vironica Marwah (Field Officer), Ashok Chandel (Head Assistant) and Surinder Kumar (Helper) conducted the awareness sessions. Dr Kumari delivered a practical demonstration on CPR, explaining correct techniques and noting that timely CPR can significantly improve chances of survival before professional medical assistance arrives. Ms Marwah spoke on the objectives, principles and humanitarian services of IRCS and encouraged students, teachers and members of the public to enroll as Red Cross members and participate in humanitarian and community service initiatives.

Principal of Government Higher Secondary School (Boys) Mendhar Saleem Hussain Shah addressed the students, highlighting the importance of staying away from drug abuse and contributing to society through humanitarian service.

A large number of students, teachers and local residents attended and participated in the interactive sessions, pledging to spread awareness about drug de-addiction and life-saving first aid practices in their communities.
