Because there is a history of hooliganism in the area surrounding the masjid, which typically escalated into something serious shortly after the conclusion of Friday prayers. In the past we have seen several killings of innocents, we have also seen lynching of a Muslim cop on the auspicious night of Shab-e-Qadar in the same area, telling frankly the tale of death in the area cannot be defined in this piece of writing. What the authorities did was not an interference in religious affairs but rather an attempt on their part to prevent any situation from getting out of hand. Although Kashmir can no longer afford that because we have moved on, there is a need to do things right when we talk about religion and politics, as well as religious and political aims and aspirations. Making certain that masjids and other sacred locations are not the focal points of any such activities that could lead to law and order difficulties demands extra care and consideration.
Consider Dargah Hazratbal and a few other highly revered mosques and religious sites in Kashmir, which have largely withstood political influence and remained more loyal to religious fundamentals ever since. Because religious institutions cannot be used for political purposes, the Jamia Masjid and all other religious sites must be preserved at all costs. This is because, whereas the political discourse is frequently polarising and contentious, causing many problems, religious platforms are designed to be places of prayer and harmony. It is critical to keep religious forums focused on religious issues, away from political issues, and it is past time to begin doing so. It is critical to make the necessary course adjustments. What has to be the guiding principle is: No politics in religious institutions, please!
