Jammu DC calls for unified drive to intensify TB detection and treatment

JAMMU, JULY 21: Deputy Commissioner Jammu Sachin Kumar Vaishya chaired a review meeting today to assess the implementation of the TB Mukt Bharat Abhiyan in the district.

He directed officers to intensify screening and treatment of tuberculosis, with a focus on vulnerable groups such as senior citizens, alcohol and tobacco users, HIV-positive individuals, diabetics and socially disadvantaged population.

The meeting was attended by Chief Medical Officer Dr Harbaksh Singh, District Tuberculosis Officer Dr Anu. SDMs, Chief Planning Officer Ajay Pal Singh, Chief Education Officer besides others concerned were also present.

The DC instructed to intensify screening to identify suspected cases and promptly put them on treatment. He underlined the importance of coordination, especially with Education, Social Welfare and Rural Development departments for effective awareness and detection efforts.

The Chief Education Officer was directed to organise TB awareness campaigns in schools, noting that students can help disseminate key health messages.

Block Medical Officers were asked to organise targeted screening camps in coordination with Sub-Divisional Magistrates to ensure early identification of symptoms such as persistent cough, fever, night sweats and weight loss. The DC also stressed follow-up to ensure that diagnosed individuals complete treatment.

The DC called for effective use of Ni Kshay Mitra and community health workers for treatment support and patient counselling. “Early detection and adherence to treatment are the two pillars of TB control,” he said.
