J&K-based filmmaker shines at global stage with ‘Country of Blind’

Srinagar, Oct 16: A Jammu and Kashmir-based film director has earned worldwide acclaim for his latest cinematic masterpiece, “Country of Blind.”

After making critically acclaimed films including Lihaaf, Mantostaan and Identity Card, director Rahat Kazmi, who hails from Surankote Poonch, is back with “Country of Blind”.

The film which is an adaptation of H.G. Wells “Country of Blind” is entirely shot in Kashmir and also features local artists including Hina Khan , Mir Sarwar, Shoib Shah, Anushka Sen , Inaamulhaq and Pradhuman Singh.

The film which as per the makers is shot in both English and Hindi languages. is poised to be a cinematic gem that transcends borders and touches the hearts of viewers.

“The majestic Himalayas serve as the setting for this historical drama. The movie was in filmed Doodhpathri, Sonamarg, and Gulmarg. A portion of the film was also filmed in Sanasar in Jammu,” Kazmi said.

While the makers expect a huge response from the film, it has already garnered an enormous response at the international stage.

The film, which was released in USA on October 6 received a lot of praise from international filmmakers.

“Country of Blind is an enchanting film. It emerges as a battleground where love contends with freedom, where the decision to stay or depart teeters on the precipice, and the relentless struggle between blindness and sight reaches its zenith.” Barmak commented after watching the movie.

“Country of Blind” was also invited by the Oscar Library and soon it was screened in the USA.

The film is now set to make its way to Indian theatres soon, where it is expected to captivate audiences with its enchanting storyline and beautifully crafted narrative.

Rahat said there is a lot of expectation from the audience regarding this movie.

Prior to it, Rahat Kazmi’s ‘The Last Coffee’ evoked enormous response from the movie buffs.

Starring Ankita Lokhande aka Archana of `Pavitra Rishta’ fame and young J&K-born actor Shoaib Nikash Shah, `The Last Coffee’ has been released on Zee5. Shot exclusively in Patnitop, the movie was showcased in different international film festivals before making the OTT debut.KNO
