Srinagar, Jan 01: Amid rising COVID-19 positive cases in the region, the Union Territory of Ladakh administration is gearing up to fight the virus by enhancing bed strength, and testing facilities besides making wearing masks mandatory and synching COVID-appropriate behavior is followed.

An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that initially a COVID-19 symptomatic case was reported at a local winter coaching center following which a total of 16 samples were collected from there.

The official said that of the 16 collected samples 07 were tested positive for COVID-19.

The official also said that 4 more cases were detected separately at SNM Hospital and PHC Chuchot with 2 each.

Officials further said that of 11 positive cases 7 are isolated in the tuition center and 02 at home and 02 are admitted to SNM Hospital Leh.

Meanwhile, following the 11 positive cases revised directions were issued by the Leh administration and made wearing face masks compulsory, and hand washing in offices, workplaces, and public places. It has also been emphasized to ensure COVID-19 appropriate behavior is followed.

The Leh administration has also directed people not to unnecessarily visit crowded places and not to hold gatherings as a precautionary measure.

Further, the Ladakh police have also issued a directive as part of the prevailing spread of the COVID-19 virus in Leh saying to take appropriate preventive measures, provide daily situation reports and surveillance and review of the situation due to the virus.

The official said that so far no positive cases have been detected from the Kargil district while the testing of those showing symptoms has been made mandatory. “Testing facilities, bed capacity, and proper manpower are being ensured given the rising cases in Leh.”

The official said that testing is being done and everything required is being ensured besides health centers have been equipped with testing material. “Health officials have also been issued directions to remain available.

People also need to cooperate with the medical teams in view of the rising cases. Asymptomatic patients need to contact health authorities and immediately isolate themselves as a precautionary measure.”

“In view of the rise in Covid-19 cases across the country and Ladakh, the District Administration Kargil has appealed to people to take all precautionary measures.”

It encouraged the general public to wear a properly fitted mask in offices, public spaces, and gatherings. “Follow Covid-appropriate behaviour. If you develop Covid symptoms, immediately contact the nearest health centre.”
