KISHTWAR, AUGUST 20: The Local Administration today issued clarification on the videos circulating on social media regarding the Hanzal Marwah incident and said the preliminary report has prima facie found that 20-30 women were part of a procession.
“They were stopped and pacified but the incident seemingly occurred due to resentment and counter-resistance when the police attempted to restrict their movement. However, the District Magistrate Kishtwar has taken cognizance of the matter to ascertain the facts. The authenticity of the clips is being scrutinized.
The general public has been requested to extend full cooperation to maintain peace and tranquility and not to fall prey to any intimidation that may affect the region’s peace. Those found guilty of such activities or exploiting the incident to vitiate the atmosphere shall be dealt with as per the law” said the SDM Marwah.
