Jammu, Jul 28 : In a heart-warming moment of justice and recognition, Ajay Kumar, a resident of Kathua, has been handed an appointment letter for a government job by the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Manoj Sinha.

This milestone marks the culmination of Ajay’s relentless fight for compensation and support following the tragic loss of his father to terrorism in 1992, a loss that left his family disturbed and mother mentally trauma.

Narrating his heart wrenching story, Ajay as per the news agency, said, “The year 1992 was a dark chapter for our family when my father fell victim to a terrorist attack, a tragedy that shook the very foundation of our lives.”

“We don’t process the loss but with time we left to navigate the aftermath, my mother suffered profound mental trauma, rendering her unable to cope with the demands of daily life,” he said. “We don’t even have land and our neighbour raised us,” he said.

“Since 2006 when I attained the age of 18 to become eligible for a job, I started running pillar to post to get the compensatory job. I left no office from district administration to civil secretariat but I only get rejections,” he said.

“In between I shouldered the responsibility of caring for family while battling systemic delays and bureaucratic hurdles to secure the government job promised under compensatory schemes for victims of terrorism,” he said.

Ajay’s journey is a testament to human resilience and perseverance. For over three decades, he fought tirelessly, submitting petitions, attending hearings, and advocating for his rightful claim under the government’s compensation policies for families affected by terrorism.

The appointment letter, presented by the Lieutenant Governor, is more than a job offer, it is a symbol of hope and acknowledgment for countless families in Jammu and Kashmir who have endured the scars of terrorism.

Ajay’s story reflects the human cost of such violence and the strength it takes to rebuild.

In his remarks, Ajay expressed profound gratitude to the Lieutenant Governor, stating, “This job is not just for me; it’s for my mother, who has lived with pain no one can imagine, and for my father, whose sacrifice will never be forgotten. I thank the LG for giving us a chance to live with dignity.”

The appointment will provide financial stability and access to resources to support his mother’s ongoing mental health needs.

However, Ajay’s case also sheds light on the need for streamlined processes to ensure timely support, as many families continue to face delays in receiving promised aid
