UDHAMPUR, JULY 10: Mission Director, Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban) and Commissioner Jammu Municipal Corporation, Dr. Devansh Yadav and Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Minga Sherpa, today jointly chaired a meeting with concerned officers to review the implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules-2026 in both urban and rural areas of the district.
During the meeting, the concerned departments were directed to prepare a comprehensive database and ensure the identification and registration of all waste-generating institutions, bulk waste generators and other establishments across the district. They emphasised the need for effective sanitation measures and the scientific management of solid waste.
The officers were instructed to ensure segregation of waste at source at all levels and to intensify public awareness campaigns while enforcing the Solid Waste Management Rules-2026 in letter and spirit.
To strengthen the waste collection system, the MD SBM (Urban) / Commissioner JMC and the Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned departments to address the shortage of garbage collection vehicles by preparing a comprehensive plan for hiring additional vehicles to facilitate efficient door-to-door waste collection.
They also instructed the officers to expedite the tendering process to ensure the timely deployment of the required vehicles.
Emphasising strict enforcement of the Rules and adherence to the directions of the Supreme Court on source segregation of waste, they called upon all stakeholders to work in close coordination for the effective implementation of scientific, sustainable and environmentally sound solid waste management practices across the district.
