RAJOURI, OCTOBER 01: On the directions of Deputy Commissioner Abhishek Sharma, a mega cleanliness and Shramdaan programme “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath” was organised today at Block Headquarters Budhal Old as part of the ongoing Swachhata Hi Seva (SHS) 2026 Campaign.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from officers and officials, former PR representatives, students, youth, sanitation workers, volunteers, civil society members and the general public. A cleanliness awareness rally was also organised, during which participants raised awareness regarding cleanliness, sanitation, responsible waste management and the importance of collective community action.
Detailed awareness was imparted regarding the provisions and objectives of the Solid Waste Management Rules-2026, with emphasis on source segregation of waste, four-way segregation, door-to-door waste collection, responsible disposal of waste, reduction, reuse and recycling of waste, home composting and proper management of different categories of solid waste.
The participants were also sensitised about the importance of avoiding littering and dumping of waste in public places and ensuring proper handover of segregated waste to the designated collection system.
The participants were further apprised about the role of Bulk Waste Generators (BWGs), their responsibilities towards scientific management of waste and the importance of registration and compliance. Emphasis was also laid on strengthening community participation in Plastic Waste Management, functioning of Plastic Waste Management Units (PWMUs), RRR initiatives and other local waste management facilities.
Additionally, a special cleanliness and Shramdaan drive was undertaken around the Block Headquarters.
Officers, officials, students, youth, sanitation workers and local residents actively participated in the cleanliness activities, including removal of accumulated waste, cleaning of public spaces and improvement of the surrounding areas. The activity also focused on transformation and improvement of identified Cleanliness Target Units (CTUs) and prevention of re-dumping of waste at the cleaned locations.
Addressing the gathering, the Additional Deputy Commissioner Dil Mir highlighted the importance of collective responsibility in achieving sustainable cleanliness and effective solid waste management.
Assistant Commissioner Panchayat, Mohammad Rafiq emphasised the importance of Jan Bhagidari in achieving sustained sanitation outcomes. He encouraged students and youth to act as ambassadors of cleanliness.
The programme also provided an opportunity to acknowledge the contribution of SafaiMitras and sanitation workers, whose efforts remain central to maintaining clean and hygienic public spaces. The collective participation of different stakeholders reflected the spirit of “Ek Din, Ek Ghanta, Ek Saath” and reinforced the message that cleanliness and scientific waste management are shared responsibilities.
