MLA, DC Shopian assess hailstorm damage in district

SHOPIAN, JUNE 18: In the wake of the recent hailstorm that caused damage to orchards in several parts of the district, MLA Shopian, Shabir Ahmad Kullay, and Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Shishir Gupta, today conducted an extensive tour of the affected areas to assess the ground situation and interact with farmers and orchardists.

MLA and Deputy Commisioner, Shopian toured the villages of Vedpora, Daramdora, Magalpora, Odhu, Chaigund, Dumpora, Dairoo and Nadigund and other areas where hailstorm-induced losses to horticultural produce were reported.

During the visit, detailed interactions with farmers were held where farmers flagged off their concerns regarding the losses suffered due to the hailstorm.

The Duo expressed solidarity with the affected families and assured them that their genuine concerns would be projected before the government for appropriate relief and assistance.

Deputy Commissioner Shopian informed the affected residents that dedicated teams of the Horticulture Department have already been deployed to conduct a comprehensive damage assessment in all affected areas.

He said that the based on assessment reports, affected growers will be provided support and financial assistance admissible under the existing provisions for the losses.

ACR Shopian and officers from the Horticulture and Agriculture Departments accompanied them.
