GANDERBAL, MAY 08: As part of the ongoing Nasha Mukt Abhiyan (NMBA @100), the District Administration Ganderbal today carried out a series of activities including awareness drives, rallies and competitions aimed at sensitizing the masses about the harmful effects of drug abuse and promoting a healthy, drug-free society.

At Preng Kangan, an awareness rally under the Nasha Mukt J&K programme was organised with active participation from various departments, civil society members and students. The rally spread awareness among nearly 600 households, reaching around 3000 people with messages against substance abuse and the importance of collective social responsibility in curbing the menace.

Meanwhile, an awareness rally was organised at Manigam in Tehsil Lar. Students from local educational institutions, teaching staff, civil society members and officials from different departments participated in the rally. Carrying placards and banners bearing anti-drug messages, the participants marched through the main market of Manigam to educate the public about the adverse impact of drug addiction.

Speakers on the occasion highlighted the importance of community participation in making Tehsil Lar and District Ganderbal free from substance abuse. They stressed the role of parents, teachers, educational institutions, religious leaders and civil society in guiding the younger generation away from drugs.

In another programme, zonal-level inter-school competitions under NMBA @100 was organised at Government Boys Higher Secondary School Hariganwan Kangan in collaboration with the Department of Education and Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women, Mission Shakti Ganderbal.

The competitions included painting, essay writing and singing events centred on the theme of a drug-free society. Students from 29 schools across Zone Hariganwan participated enthusiastically and showcased their creativity and awareness through artistic, literary and cultural expressions.

Similarly, the Excise team Ganderbal conducted an awareness-cum-survey programme at Village Shalabugh in Tehsil Tulmulla. As part of the initiative, the team also coordinated with the Imam of the local mosque, who on their request highlighted the ill effects of drug abuse during the Friday sermon and urged the community to work collectively towards a drug-free society.

The District Administration appreciated the active participation of students, officials and locals in the Nasha Mukt programmes, and reiterated the need for sustained awareness initiatives and collective efforts to achieve the vision of a drug-free society.
