JAMMU, JUNE 03: The Horticulture Department today launched one month training for students of Government College for Women, Gandhi Nagar to acquaint them with fruit value addition skills.

Joint Director Horticulture Jammu Gul Syed inaugurated the training programme being conducted here at the Fruit Craft Centre, Chand Nagar.

The initiative aims to upskill the students on the preparation of value-added horticultural products and promote entrepreneurship among the youth.

Addressing the students, the Joint Director highlighted the significance of value addition in horticulture, particularly in reducing post-harvest losses, improving product quality and extending shelf life. He elaborated various schemes and support mechanisms offered by the department to youth aspiring to venture into food processing and value addition.

He emphasized that certification from the Fruit Craft Centre can empower students to launch their own startups in Food Processing and Product Marketing.

Also present on the occasion were Manager-cum-Chemist Sureshta Gour and other staff members of the Fruit Craft Centre, who will be facilitating the training sessions over the coming month.
