Srinagar, Apr 12 : Jammu and Kashmir Samagra Shiksha has asked the School Education Department to ensure adequate number of schools from those blocks where no schools have been selected for ‘PM SHRI Schools’ in 1st and 2nd phase.

The PM SHRI School is a centrally sponsored scheme initiated by the Government of India with an objective is to establish over 14,500 PM SHRI Schools, overseen by the Central Government, State or UT Governments, local bodies, as well as Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS).

According to the news agency Nodal Officer of JK Samagra Shiksha in a communique to School Education Department said that the cabinet has approved a new centrally sponsored PM SHRI (PM Schools for Rising India) scheme in 2022 that aims to establish more than 14500 schools across india with comprehensive interventions to promote transformation in equity, access, quality, and inclusion.

The first and Second phase of the selection process through the transparent challenge method has already been completed.

“A total number of 233 schools during the first phase and 156 schools during the second phase of selection were selected as PM SHRI schools in the J&K UT,” it reads.

The official communique further reads that the third phase of the selection process will be done through a transparent challenge method wherein Schools will self-apply on the online portal.

“A pool of eligible schools have already been identified by the Ministry of education based on Minimum Benchmarks on the basis of UDISE + data,” it reads.

The Nodal Officer further said that such schools will compete in a challenge method to fulfil certain criteria, and their fulfillment will be certified through inspection by the concerned district Level selection Committee.

“Further, it is requested to ensure adequate number of schools from Blocks where no schools have been selected in 1st and 2nd phase to compete in the challenge method during the third phase of selection so as to maximise the coverage of the PM SHRI Scheme across the J&K,” Samagra Shiksha told directors of school education of both regions.

According to the official communique the third phase of the selection process will commence from 15.04.2024. “Selection of PM SHRI Schools is a time bound process and it needs to be completed within the specified timeline.”

The Samagra Shiksha accordingly requested that the direction may kindly be issued to Chief Education Officers of both divisions to further issue necessary instructions to HOls of the benchmark schools.
