Srinagar: A policeman was shot dead by militants in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Saturday, official said.
A police official told GNS that the head constable Ali Mohammad son Ghulam Qadir Ganie was fired upon by unknown militants at Hassapora area, leaving him critically injured. He was shifted to SDH Bijbhera Anantnag where doctors declared him dead. “He was brought dead,” said a doctor at Sub District Hospital Bijbhera Anantnag.
In a statement issued here late in the evening, a police spokesperson said that at about 1730 hours, Police received information that militants had fired upon a Police personnel at Hasanpora Tabala area of Bijbehara Anantnag. “Senior police officers reached at the spot and (they) learnt that Head Constable Ali Mohammad Ganie was shot at by the (militants) near his residential house at Hasanpora Tabala area of Bijbehara Anantnag.”
Ganie had received grievous gunshot injuries. “Although, the injured police personnel was immediately evacuated to nearby hospital, however he succumbed to his injuries,” he said, adding, “It is pertinent to mention that the official was posted at Police Station Kulgam.” (GNS)
