The Congress party is trying hard to get itself to wake up from a deep slumber which has cost the party almost everything, even though it has been pushed down from the stature of being the historical party of the county whose leaders once fought for the independence of India, but these days, its leader, Rahul Gandhi, especially after ‘Chintan Shivir,’ is pitching for novel step—at least they are new to the Congress—to reach to the grassroots to get back what it has lost so far.
Last week, Rahul Gandhi while he was in London, speaking at the ‘Ideas for India’ Conclave termed the mass movement of people and anarchy across the country on a wide range of issues, as the only way to get rid of the system which he said is being controlled by one and only, RSS. What, however, seems to be the major takeaway here is that the Congress has finally sensed that their way of going about the matters, was not quite workable and effective and that there was a need for change—and the same is visible from what Rahul said during the conclave.
The new approach of Congress also seems to be diminishing the line which separates centrists from leftists and leftists from right-wingers because what the Congress has pitched for—anarchy and mass movement of people—is the belief of the parties which are leftists and usually resort to protests to make their point, or get the authorities down to listen to them an operate as per their wishes. To the utter surprise of most people, Rahul Gandhi also used the term ‘Deep State’ and termed the ED, and CBI a part of it. He was clear that the opposition has no fight with the BJP but rather with the entire structure of the system, which Rahul said has been captured by one organization, pointing to the RSS.
It is good to know that the need for change in the strategy has been finally accepted by the Congress, however, what Rahul Gandhi has put forth has got few to no takers and it remains to be seen how, if the party has such beliefs, in reality, is going to galvanize the same on the ground and how it intends to restart and reach the grassroots across the country.
Rahul Gandhi’s one assertion that there is resentment among people against the present Government was aptly countered as to why that resentment didn’t turn into votes in favor of Congress, but Rahul Gandhi had no satisfying answer to that, which somehow suggested that there still is a need for doing more. The time has come to realize that Congress alone cannot do anything now and the need of the hour is to launch a joint campaign to return to the political landscape before the system turns stagnant.
