KISHTWAR, SEPTEMBER 30: Deputy Commissioner Kishtwar Pankaj Kumar Sharma today flagged off relief material for the fire victims of Village Mungli, Tehsil Warwan.
The relief material provided by the Red Cross includes kitchen sets, blankets, tents, mattresses, kitchenware, jugs, buckets and other essential items. In addition, food kits containing rice, flour, oil and lentils have also been provided to the affected families.
Briefing the media about the incident, he said the information about the fire incident was received around 12 o’clock in the night. “The houses in the Warwan and Marwah areas are mostly made of wood and are closely attached to each other, due to which the fire spreads rapidly. In Marwah Mungli, there were about 40 houses in the cluster. He said that immediately after receiving the information, the District Civil and Police Administration took prompt action and created fire breakers by damaging some houses to prevent the fire from spreading further. As a result the fire was limited to 7 houses. He informed that 4 fire tenders from the nearby station at Larnu were pressed into service which reached the spot around 3:00 am. Before their arrival, the fire was controlled with the help of JCB and local residents.
“The biggest relief is that there was no loss of human life. As per the report of SDM Marwah and Tehsildar Warwan, some livestock loss has been reported,” the DC said and added that assessment of the actual property loss is underway.
SSP Kishtwar Sunny Gupta, ACR Kishtwar Idrees Lone, Secretary Red Cross Asgar Ali Sheikh, besides officials from District Red Cross Society were present on the occasion.
