JAMMU, MAY 24: Minister for Food, Civil Supplies & Consumer Affairs (FS&CA), Information Technology, Transport, Youth Services & Sports, and Science & Technology, Satish Sharma, today emphasized youth empowerment, healthy lifestyle, sports culture and collective efforts to build a strong and drug-free Jammu and Kashmir.

He was addressing the students, teachers, parents and members of the school community at the annual prize distribution programme at JNV Jammu-II, Nardi-Bala.

The Minister underscored the role of educational institutions in shaping responsible citizens and nurturing the values of discipline, perseverance and leadership among the young minds.

Congratulating the students on their achievements, Satish Sharma said that educational institutions are not merely centers of academic excellence but nurseries where character, leadership and the future of society is shaped. He emphasized that true success extends beyond awards and recognition and lies in values such as perseverance, hard work and integrity.

Speaking about his personal journey and values, the Minister reflected on the lessons of discipline, sacrifice and resilience learned from his roots. He stated that the strongest foundations of success are often built quietly through dedication and effort.

Addressing the young generation, Satish Sharma highlighted the importance of healthy living and urged the students to adopt nutritious and natural food habits. He expressed concern over the growing influence of processed and unhealthy food choices among youth and stressed the need to reconnect with healthier lifestyle.

“A strong nation is built on healthy citizens. The choices young people make today regarding health and lifestyle will determine the future strength of our society,” he said.

The Minister also praised the role of Scouts, Guides and youth development initiatives in shaping the responsible citizens. He noted that values such as discipline, teamwork and commitment cultivated through such platforms help prepare young minds for future leadership roles.

Expressing concern over the growing challenge of substance abuse, Satish Sharma strongly advocated sports and youth engagement as powerful tools to combat the drug menace. He emphasized that sports instill discipline, focus and purpose among young people and can become a strong shield against social evils.

“Sports grounds, classrooms and creative spaces must become centers of aspiration for our youth. A child engaged in sports learns resilience, determination and the value of hard work,” he remarked.

The Minister reiterated government’s commitment to expand opportunities for youth participation in sports and constructive activities across Jammu and Kashmir.

Congratulating the students who received awards, Satish Sharma encouraged them to continue striving for excellence while motivating others to remain determined and work hard towards achieving their goals

The event also featured cultural performances and participation from school staff, parents and students, creating an atmosphere of celebration and inspiration.
