Srinagar, Dec 19: The Wullar Conservation & Management Authority (WUCMA) is contemplating the establishment of nature libraries in schools around Wular Lake, Asia’s largest freshwater lake in a proactive move towards environmental education.

Coordinator WUCMA, Mudasir Mehmood Malik told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), that these libraries will boast an extensive collection of books covering diverse themes related to nature conservation, encompassing topics such as birds, plants, wildlife, and environmental preservation.

He said that the primary objective of these nature libraries is to cultivate a profound appreciation for the environment among the younger generation. “WUCMA envisions creating a lasting impact on how stakeholders approach the protection and management of Wular Lake and its surrounding ecosystem,” he added.

Recognizing children as crucial assets in the journey towards preserving the natural beauty of our surroundings, WUCMA, he said, aims to empower them with knowledge and resources through these nature libraries.

“The establishment of these nature libraries is a progressive step in raising awareness about the significance of Wular Lake and nurturing an environmentally conscious mindset among students,” he added.

“By providing students with a rich repository of information on nature and conservation, WUCMA seeks to mold a generation that not only cherishes but actively safeguards our natural assets,” Malik added—(KNO)
