SRINAGAR, MARCH 12: Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K) today held a mega plantation drive at the Mountain Research Centre for Sheep and Goat (MRCSG), Shuhama, as part of the university’s ongoing Green Initiative.

Director Research, SKUAST-K, who was the chief guest at the occasion, lauded the efforts of the Centre in transforming barren landscapes into productive green zones. He commended Head of MRCS&G, Dr Parvaiz Ahmad Reshi’s leadership in the development of the Centre, and said that such initiatives are vital for strengthening environmental sustainability and advancing livestock-based research activities.

The event was attended by Prof. Mohammad Altaf Bhat, Director Education; Prof. Azmat Alam Khan, Registrar; Prof. Sajad Ahmad Gangoo, Dean Students’ Welfare, and Prof. Riaz Ahmad Shah, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Sciences.

During the drive, the dignitaries, alongside various Heads of Divisions, scientists, and faculty members, planted saplings of Kikar, Mulberry, Apricot, Willow, Ailanthus, and Poplar. These were distributed across key units of the Centre, including the Sub-Alpine Pasture, Rabbitry, and Goatry plots.

Dr Parvaiz Ahmad Reshi, Senior Scientist & Head of MRCS&G, highlighted that the Centre has set an ambitious target to plant 25,000 saplings during the current spring season. This initiative aims to both promote environmental sustainability and develop essential tree fodder resources for livestock.
