SOTTO J&K Delivers Organ Donation Awareness for Senior Citizens

Srinagar, Mar 14 : Jammu and Kashmir State Organ and Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO J&K) on Thursday organised an awareness lecture on Organ Donation and Transplantation for senior citizens at the Senior Citizen Rejuvenation Centre (SCRC), Trikuta Nagar, Jammu.

As per the news agency, President SCRC,  Kuldeep Singh Samyal, welcomed and introduced Dr Sanjeev Puri, Joint Director, SOTTO J&K, as the resource person for Organ Donation to the members.

Dr Puri elaborated on the process of human organ donation and highlighted its necessity for saving the lives of patients with end-stage organ failure. He discussed the concept of brain stem death and the family’s consent for organ donation under the National Organ Transplant Programme (NOTP) and the Transplantation of Human Organ and Tissue Act (THOTA), 1994.

Dr Puri addressed myths and facts related to organ donation and responded to queries from the audience. He urged attendees to pledge for organ donation on notto.abdm.gov.in.

Among the audience were executive members of SCRC, including T.R. Puri, Vice President; Ashok Gupta, Chief Patron; T.C. Taggar, General Secretary; I.D. Soni, Educationist; S.C. Verma, President, Trikuta Development Council; and Ramesh Gupta, Finance Secretary.

The attendees felicitated Dr Sanjeev Puri, the key speaker, and Sohail Kazmi, a senior journalist.

The event was managed by Anshu Sharma, Media Consultant, and  Ashwani Kumar from SOTTO, who also presented informational material for the members
