These days, the administration is seen executing, kick-starting several projects under the Srinagar Smart City Project on daily basis, even as several projects are taken in accordance with the aims and objectives of the Smart City project where information technology is the principal infrastructure and the basis for providing essential services to residents and there are many technological platforms involved such as automated sensor networks and data centres.
However, as of now, the administration seems to be less focused on addressing the traffic issue in Srinagar and particularly on putting in place a well-defined Ambulance Corridor—which should be the backbone of the overall traffic management in the city. Currently, in the name of smartness, the city does not have anything in place to man the traffic and ensure the smooth passage of the ambulances at the same, for which, more than human resources, the administration needs to rely on and focus on the information technology which forms the foundation of the smart city because it is an urban region which is highly advanced in terms of overall infrastructure, sustainable real estate, communications and market viability.
While the execution of the project, in general, is going to take a lot of time, there is a need for the administration to bring in changes and necessary interventions concerning the traffic management across the city with a special focus on the smooth plying of the ambulances and other vehicles of essential services. By pitching for taking the necessary steps in the direction of streamlining the traffic, we are trying to divert the attention of the authorities towards the issue which is important and whose resolution would end up making numerous lives easy and will also pave way for the economic growth and stability.
