Students face tough time at North Kashmir’s waterlogged school

Baramulla, Mar 5, : Students of Government Boys High School in Singhpora Pattan area of North Kashmir’s Baramulla district have been facing a tough time as the school compound gets inundated after every rainfall.

“It has become a routine and sometimes, even classrooms are waterlogged,” said students.

Yesterday after a long winter break, when the students arrived at the school, they had to take off their shoes and socks and wade through the water to reach their classrooms.

Over 300 students have to face the brunt of the negligent attitude of the authorities towards addressing the water logging problem. Water accumulation for a longer period often increases the chances of vector-borne disease outbreaks.

The school principal said he has joined recently but will apprise the authorities concerned about the situation.

Students said that authorities are aware of the situation and nothing is being done to ease their suffering. “Every time there is a rainfall, there is water logging. We simply want this stagnated water to be drained out,” they said adding that this problem has persisted since 2022.

When contacted, Block Development Officer, Singhpora Pattan Hakeem Auqib, who allocates funds for the block, told the news agency Kashmir News Trust that he would visit the school and take all measures to mitigate the sufferings of the students and teachers.

“The problem will be resolved,” he said.
