BANDIPORA, MARCH 11: Social Welfare Department (SWD) Bandipora organized a sensitization and awareness programme on Wednesday for senior citizens under the Atal Vayo Abhyuday Yojana (AVAY) at Town Hall, Hajin.

During the programme, resource persons delivered lectures on digital and financial literacy and highlighted the rights, protection and dignity of senior citizens. They also emphasised the need to create awareness about various welfare schemes meant for the elderly.

Addressing the gathering, the TSO spoke about the welfare schemes being implemented by the Social Welfare Department for the benefit of senior citizens. It was informed that the department is organising a series of intergenerational bonding programmes for elderly persons to make them aware of different welfare schemes and support systems available to them.

The programme also focused on digital and financial literacy, particularly on educating senior citizens about safe banking practices and ways to safeguard themselves from online banking frauds.

On the occasion, a Nukkad Natak was also presented by Reshi Cultural Forum to raise awareness about welfare schemes for elderly persons and to sensitise the public about the importance of care and respect for senior citizens.

The programme was attended by officials from the Social Welfare Department, representatives from the banking sector, and a large number of senior citizens from the area.
