JAMMU, OCTOBER 15 – The Fashion Designing and Technology Cell of Government College for Women (GCW), Parade Ground, Jammu, proudly organized “The Art of Attire – An Exhibition cum Competition”, a dynamic fashion show that celebrated innovation, cultural heritage, and contemporary design through the creative lens of student designers.

The event was graced by Leena Padha, Mission Director, Skill Development Mission, as the Chief Guest. In her address, Padha expressed deep appreciation for the students’ exceptional creativity and the faculty’s dedication.

“We are not only impressed but pleasantly surprised by the efforts displayed. These students are truly talented and deserve greater exposure,” she stated. She also assured that the department would continue supporting such student-driven initiatives that align with skill development and employability.

Dr. Ravender K. Tickoo, Principal, GCW Parade Ground, emphasized the significance of skill-based learning in today’s world. “That’s why we focus on implementing employment-friendly skill programs for our students. Fashion designing is a vast and ever-evolving industry where creativity and individuality are irreplaceable,” he noted. Dr. Tickoo highlighted that this was the second successful edition of the show, underscoring the growing interest and enthusiasm among students.

The event featured six unique themed rounds, each reflecting a specific style, technique, or fashion era:

• Jeans Round – A bold and modern showcase celebrating denim culture, where students re-imagined jeans with experimental cuts, embellishments, and street-style aesthetics. Swati was declared the winner for her edgy and original design.

• Macramé Round – This round highlighted the intricate art of knotting, bringing forth detailed hand-crafted outfits with elegant texture and structure. Rabia stood out with her mastery in technique and graceful presentation.

• Saree Round – A tribute to timeless tradition, this segment featured innovative drapes and fusion styles of the saree. Meemansha impressed the judges with her creative reinterpretation of classic elegance.

• Kaftan Round – Flowing silhouettes and global inspiration defined this round, celebrating comfort with style. Sakshi emerged as the winner for her vibrant and well-constructed kaftan ensemble.

• Lehenga Round – Regal and rich in ethnic craftsmanship, this round showcased traditional bridal and festive wear. Neelakshi took the lead with her graceful design and attention to detail.

• Polka Round – A playful nod to retro fashion, students brought polka dots back into the spotlight with fresh, youthful flair. Tamanha won for her bold interpretation and confident runway presence.

The title of “Best of the Best” was awarded to Yamuna Mattu for her outstanding overall performance, versatility, and originality across the segments.

The event concluded with a heartfelt token of gratitude presented by Dr. Alpana Vohra, Convenor, Skill Development Cell, to the Chief Guest, Leena Padha. A certificate of appreciation was also presented to NeelamSalaria, Faculty Incharge, Fashion Designing and Technology Cell, in recognition of her pivotal role in coordinating and mentoring students throughout the event.

The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Prof. Sukriti Sharma, who acknowledged the dedicated efforts of all students, faculty members, and guests whose collaboration made the event a grand success.

“The Art of Attire” not only brought fashion to the forefront but also reinforced GCW Parade Ground’s commitment to empowering students through skill-building and creative expression.
