Over 100 positive cases of Covid-19 in Jammu and Kashmir on a regular basis is ample proof that the deadly virus has not vanished yet and thus has the potential to infect more and more people across the Union Territory.
However, reopening of educational institutions after the gap of nearly three years is certainly a welcome move, but those who have not received any Covid jab yet, would unquestionably be at a huge risk of getting infected.
Yet there is no appropriate medicine or vaccine to cure Covid-19, but the jabs inoculated to the people would help them in increasing their immune system to fight the pandemic if they catch the virus.
The educational institutions, especially schools have been kept closed for offline classes since 2020 in wake of the outbreak of Covid-19, but as the government introduced Covid vaccine for the people including the adults, it has decided to reopen all the educational institutions across Jammu and Kashmir after February 28, 2022.
Given the fact that the students below 15, enrolled in different educational institutions have not been given the Covid vaccine yet and thus simultaneously, there is every possibility of catching the virus and subsequently worsening their health.
Most of the schools lack adequate space to accommodate the students enrolled there, thus the implementation of Covid Appropriate Behavior (CAB) in these institutions, would be unlikely to be possible for the management, thus would land the students in trouble and their health at risk as well.
One fails to understand the reasons behind closing down the schools for the students due to Covid as these institutions are being reopened for the children at a time when they have not received Covid jab yet.
Therefore, in order to ensure safety to the children, the government should reconsider its decision of reopening the schools for the students, who have not been inoculated so far. There is a need to vaccinate all the children below 15 years of age so that the risk to their health is prevented well on time and any untoward incident is thwarted as well.
Thus, the government should consider going ahead with the online classes for the children, who are yet to be given the Covid jab.
