KATHUA, MARCH 07: As part of the ongoing Women’s Week celebrations being organised by the District Administration Kathua from March 02 to 08, a walkathon was held today from the iconic Atal Setu Bridge at Basohli to promote women empowerment, fitness and greater participation of women and girls in physical activities.
The walkathon was flagged off by Additional Deputy Commissioner Basohli Pankaj Bagotra. He lauded the enthusiastic participation of women, students and civil society members in the event and emphasised that such initiatives not only promote physical fitness but also strengthen the message of gender equality and empowerment in society.
The event witnessed massive participation of women folk, girl students and representatives of NGOs, reflecting strong community support for the Women’s Week initiative of the District Administration Kathua.
As many as 90 girl students from five schools of Zone Basohli participated in the walkathon along with a large number of local women.
The walkathon commenced from the Jammu and Kashmir side of the Atal Setu Bridge, crossed the bridge towards Punjab and proceeded further towards Basohli town, spreading awareness about the importance of women’s health, empowerment and active community participation.
Tehsildar Basohli Sagar Vishav Karma, BDO Basohli Rajesh Kumar, Principal Government Model Higher Secondary School Basohli Brij Bhushan Sharma, ZPEO Basohli Tara Singh and other officials and staff members were also present on the occasion.
The programme was organised under the supervision of CDPO Basohli Rakesh Kumar, who served as the Nodal Officer for the event.
The walkathon formed part of a series of activities being organised across the district under Women’s Week celebrations to generate awareness about women empowerment, health, nutrition and leadership, while encouraging greater participation of women in all spheres of life.
