Srinagar, Mar 30 : Jammu and Kashmir Police on Saturday said that a joint effort is underway to eradicate the cross-border drug-trafficking, which has caused extensive damage to the youth, a police officer said on Saturday.

Superintendent of Police (SP) East, Mubashir Hussain Bukhari as per the news agency while speaking to the media persons on the sidelines of the function ‘Drug Free Kashmir Event’ organized at Auditorium SKUAST-K here by Police, said the J&K Police wants to save the young generation from getting indulged in drug menace.

“We want our young generation, especially the vulnerable lot, which falls under the age group of 18-25 years. We want to reach out to them to ensure that they don’t get involved in drug addiction,” he said.

Bukhari also said J&K Police has been organizing such events in every nook and corner to send a message of keeping the youth away from drugs.

He further stated that depression and lack of activity are among the main reasons for drug addiction. “When the youth will not keep themselves abuzz with the activities like sports, business, studies and other things, they fall prey to such issues,” he said.

Asked about cross-border drug trafficking, SP East said that it is causing extensive damage to the youth, but “Police, Army and other security forces are on it to eradicate this menace.”

He further added that the events like today will be organized in the future as well.
