10 Day Skill development Workshop commences at GDC Marh

JAMMU, JANUARY 29: Student Welfare-Women Empowerment- IIC Committee, student presidium of Government Degree College Marh, in collaboration with Dogre Well Wisher Foundation, registered with the directorate of Handicraft J&K and Ministry of Textiles Government of India, organised 10 day workshop on handicraft skills under the patronage of the principal of the college Dr. Rakesh Kumar Koul. The resource persons for the workshop are Ritu Gupta and Arun Kumar from Dogre Well Wisher Foundation.

The inaugural session started with a welcome note by the college Principal, who emphasized the importance of handicraft in generating self-employability and self-sustenance among the rural youth and upholding and preserving the traditional culture of Jammu and Kashmir.

The workshop will provide a platform to the participants to gain hands-on experience in Aari work handmade embroidery. It shall also serve as a platform for fostering collaborations and enabling cultural exchange.

As many as 35 students along with faculty members registered themselves for the workshop. On the first day, the male as well as the female students were imparted the training in handling the Aari(needle) and the fundamentals of stitching which shall finally lead to fine embroidery. A healthy competition among male and female students was noticed as an equipotential stakeholder of the society which was very encouraging under the NEP.

The faculty members who graced the occasion were Prof Madhvi Prasher, Prof Ashu Jolly,Prof Balwinder Saini, Prof. Sachin Bhagat, Gurleen Kour and Mrs. Shiksha. The inaugural session ended with avote of thanks by Dr. Sheetal Devi (HOD Dogri). The Principal of the college Dr.Rakesh Kumar Koul appreciated the efforts of the faculty members and students for their contribution towards the development of the college.
