100 Day ‘Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir’ Campaign commences in Shopian

SHOPIAN, APRIL 11: 100 day Nasha Mukht Jammu & Kashmir Campaign was formally inaugurated in Shopian today, marking a coordinated effort to promote a drug-free society.

The district wide campaign commenced from Government Boys Higher Secondary School Shopian in the presence of MLA Zainapora, Showkat Hussain Ganie, Deputy Commissioner Shopian, Shishir Gupta, Senior Superintendent of Police Shopian, Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary, ADDC Shopian, Dr. Nasir Ahmad Lone, ADC Shopian, Dr. Zakir Hussain Faaz and other officers.

The programme witnessed large participation from students, staff and the general public, reflecting a unified approach toward combating drug abuse.

The initiative is part of a broader UT wide campaign inaugurated by the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir.

MLA Zainapora, while addressing the gathering, emphasized the social responsibility of every citizen in eliminating drug abuse. He stressed that awareness at the grassroots level, especially among youth, is essential and called for collective vigilance by families, communities, and institutions, stating that drug addiction not only destroys individuals but weakens the social fabric of society.

The Deputy Commissioner, in his address, highlighted the administrative commitment toward making the district drug free. He emphasized coordination among departments, regular awareness drives, and strict monitoring mechanisms.

He also urged students and youth to act as ambassadors of change and actively participate in awareness activities.

Senior Superintendent of Police, Shopian, in his address focused on the enforcement aspect of the campaign. He underlined the strict action being taken against drug peddlers and reiterated the role of the police in dismantling drug networks.

He also highlighted the importance of community cooperation, urging citizens to socially boycott drug peddlers and report their activities and stated that public support is crucial in strengthening law enforcement efforts and ensuring long-term success.

On the occasion, various sports activities including volleyball, cricket, and tug of war were held reinforcing the campaign’s focus on engaging youth in positive and healthy activities.

A painting competition, depicting the harmful effects of drug abuse was also organized, with enthusiastic participation from students of different schools.

As part of the district wide schedule, similar awareness and outreach programmes were conducted across multiple locations, including at Subdivision Zainapora, panchayat level initiatives and institutional activities, ensuring wider community engagement.

Students from various schools participated actively, contributing to the campaign’s message of awareness and prevention.

The campaign places youth at the center, aiming to channel their energy toward constructive activities while sensitizing them about the dangers of drug abuse.
