POONCH, DECEMBER 21: Deputy Commissioner Poonch Vikas Kundal today conducted a comprehensive review of the Sericulture Department’s operations in the district here at a meeting held in the DC Office Complex.

The meeting began with a detailed report from the officials regarding the achievements and under different schemes, highlighting diversification and new initiatives within the sector.

During the review, it was noted that four mulberry nurseries are currently operational in Poonch, alongside the establishment of 27 silkworm rearing units under the Holistic Agriculture Development Program (HADP). The department has successfully achieved the target set for the plantation of mulberry trees.

The Deputy Commissioner directed the Sericulture Officer to initiate the allotment process for two kanal land for the establishment of a new nursery, equipped with a modern rearing house. He also emphasized the importance of maximizing the farmers’ registration to promote sericulture in the district.

“Improving access to quality silkworm seeds, mulberry saplings, and appropriate technologies is crucial to boosting productivity and enhancing the income of sericulture farmers,” said DC Kundal. He stressed the need for regular monitoring and capacity-building initiatives to ensure the sustained success of the department’s programs.

The meeting was attended by Sericulture Assistants from various circles, including Poonch, Surankote, Mendhar, Mandi, Jhullas and Balakote.
