Srinagar, Dec 09 : Chairperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB), Dr. Hina Bhat, highlighted significant progress in employment generation and livelihood initiatives in Baramulla during an event in Sopore on Monday.

Speaking to the media, Dr. Bhat revealed that approximately 3,500 units have been established in Baramulla over the past three years, with Rs 104.8 crore in margin money already disbursed. “These efforts have provided livelihoods to nearly 28,000 people in the district,” she said, as per the news agency.

Focusing on women empowerment, she noted that 10,000 units in Baramulla are being successfully operated by skilled young women.

She added that KVIB’s was committed to supporting 250 young female artisans, who were part of an interaction group in Sopore, by mid-2025. She announced plans to establish additional units, either in clusters or as standalone enterprises, to further enhance livelihood opportunities.

“These young women are not just skilled but also highly dedicated and experts in their respective fields. They will play a pivotal role in creating job opportunities for others,” she added.

The KVIB Chairperson expressed optimism about the progress made so far and reiterated KVIB’s support for women-led initiatives in the region
