UDHAMPUR, AUGUST 20: Director Horticulture Jammu Gul Syed visited Udhampur today and chaired a meeting of District Level Officers, Horticulture Development Officers and staff members to review departmental activities in the District.
Chief Horticulture Officer Brij Vallabh Gupta briefed the Director about the achievements made under the departmental schemes and physical works executed during the year 2025-26.
The Director directed all the officers/ field staff to conduct regular field visits of respective area and spread awareness among the farmers about the benefits offered through the departmental schemes like JKCIP, MIDH, HADP and CAPEX. Further, he directed for convergence of works like Pit Digging with MG-NREGA Labour, development of more and more orchards of Kiwi, Dragon Fruits and Apple, as these crops can flourish well in District Udhampur.
Instructions were also issued to encourage SC, ST farmers of their respective to take up horticulture activities, for which funds will be released on demand basis under ATMA Scheme. Stress was laid on conducting training camps for capacity development of staff and farmers, besides inviting school and College students to the departmental nurseries to acquaint them with huge employment potential in Horticulture sector.
Later, the Director visited Fruit Preservation and Utilization Extension centre and instructed the MCC to take up target oriented works. All HDOs were directed to supply 1-1.5 qtls of fruit raw material to the canning centre for processing of canned products. He also visited the Dragon Fruit Orchard of local farmer Yogeshwar Gupta.
