RAMBAN, OCTOBER 14: Deputy Commissioner Ramban today chaired a meeting of district officers to review the implementation of road safety measures and compliance to the directions of the Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety (SCCoRS) in the district.

The meeting was attended by Additional SP Mujeeb-Ur-Rehman, Chief Planning Officer Dr. Shakeeb Ahmad Rather, Chief Medical Officer, ARTO, Executive Engineers of PWD, PMGSY, Jal Shakti, JPDCL, representatives of NHAI, members of Civil Quick Response Teams (QRTs) and other concerned officers.

During the meeting, the Deputy Commissioner reviewed the progress of road safety works approved under the District Road Safety Plan, which are being executed by the PWD and PMGSY Divisions of Ramban and Banihal and other departments. The Executive Engineers of both divisions, along with NHAI representatives, presented detailed status reports of ongoing and completed works.

The meeting emphasized compliance with the SCCoRS guidelines, highlighting the need to minimize road accidents, fatalities and injuries, especially in the vulnerable areas. The DC stressed the importance of a coordinated and holistic approach involving all stakeholder departments to ensure overall road safety.

Special focus was laid on rectifying identified accident-prone black spots, improving road signage, installation of crash barriers and expediting the execution of approved safety works. The Deputy Commissioner directed officers to intensify road safety awareness campaigns, strengthen monitoring mechanisms and ensure timely submission of compliance reports on SCCoRS directions.

The DC also instructed NHAI authorities and the Police Department to coordinate for the installation of CCTV cameras along the National Highway stretch from Nashri to Banihal to enhance surveillance and quick response to road accidents.

The Deputy Commissioner also directed all departments to adopt stringent and coordinated measures to ensure safer and accident-free roads across the district.
