India along with other Asian countries might be again set to witness a surge in the COVID-19 cases as the positive cases in the country and elsewhere in the world have lately witnessed a jump. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has aptly termed COVID-19 as ‘Behroopiya Bemari’ which keeps on changing and bypasses all the safety measures. The PM clearly said that COVID-19 has not gone anywhere and the same could resurface anywhere. The apprehensions were well depicted even in the address of the WHO chief who said that while a new wave is sweeping through Europe, others might also want to prepare better.
The address of the PM in this regard needs to be seen in a way that suggested and pointed toward the seriousness of the Government in ensuring that the virus does not spread and that people are made aware that the danger of the disease is not over yet while emphasising and underling the changing nature of the virus. Because, if the world is suffering, it is because of these changes, mutation, which the COVID-19 witnessed and there is a great need for understanding that temporariness.
WHO chief warned that they are recording over 1.5 million new cases each day, with large outbreaks spreading in Asia alone; even as, he said, a new wave is sweeping across Europe. The PM while cautioning people against letting the guard down also talked about the grand vaccination campaign that the country undertook in its fight against COVID. The intention of PM on the occasion when he talked about COVID-19 was not only to project what the Government has done so far to deal with the situation, but majorly, he impressed on understanding the nature of the virus which only will make fighting the virus possible with much vigour and courage.
PM lauded the vaccination drive which has been carried out on a mass scale in India—presenting the same power and standard that most the countries have so far failed to achieve. The target of the countries was to achieve 70 per cent vaccination coverage by the mid of 2022 to put up an effective fight against the pandemic. On the contrary, while most of the countries are lagging, in India over 80% of its adult population stand vaccinated even as the process of administering a third COVID vaccine jab has also been started.
PM Modi not only tried to show that India cares about the emerging global situation concerning COVID as well as what might transpire domestically but also effectively projected the commendable work of the country in its fight to end the pandemic which has ravaged numerous lives and destroyed economies.
