KISHTWAR, JANUARY 01: National Road Safety Month–2026 campaign was formally kick-started today in Kishtwar district by the Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pankaj Kumar Sharma.

The DC administered the Road Safety Pledge to the participants including heads of line departments, officials of the DC office and members of Transport Union, reaffirming the district administration’s commitment to minimize road accidents through collective responsibility and by promoting adherence to traffic rules.

The DC informed that the National Road Safety Month 2026 will be observed from 1st January to 31st January 2026, during which a series of focused activities and campaigns would be conducted across the district. The campaign aims to educate road users about safe driving practices, pedestrian safety and the importance of following traffic regulations.

The DC directed the Assistant Regional Transport Officer (ARTO), Tasleem Wani to organize scheduled activities during the month, including road safety awareness camps, public outreach programmes, enforcement drives besides medical check-up camps for drivers and transporters to promote health and fitness for safer driving.

Emphasizing the importance of public participation, the DC stated that road safety is a shared responsibility and called upon all stakeholders—drivers, pedestrians, students and transport operators—to actively support the initiative and contribute towards making Kishtwar’s roads safer for everyone.

The event was attended by ADDC Vinod Kumar Behnal; ADC Pawan Kotwal; ACR Idrees Lone; ACD Manoj Kumar; CPO Akhil Thakur; DSWO Tariq Parvaiz Qazi; ARTO Tasleem Wani; AD FCS&CA Shafqat Ali Keen; AD Handicrafts Pardeep Shan besides other officers, staff and representatives from the Transport Union.
