SRINAGAR, MARCH 12: A meeting of the Verification Sub-Committee for Swachhata Green Leaf Rating (SGLR) in the hospitality sector was convened today under the chairmanship of Zuber Ahmad Bhat, Sub-Divisional Magistrate (East), Srinagar, to initiate the verification process of hospitality establishments under the SGLR framework.

The meeting aimed to orient the committee members regarding the objectives, framework, and verification process of the Swachhata Green Leaf Rating initiative, which is being implemented to promote safe sanitation and sustainable waste management practices in hospitality establishments such as hotels, guest houses, and other tourism facilities.

During the meeting, the committee members were briefed on the SGLR guidelines, assessment indicators, and certification format that will be used during the field verification of participating hospitality facilities. The committee will be responsible for verifying the self-assessment reports submitted by tourist establishments and assessing their compliance with sanitation, waste management, and environmental sustainability standards.

Speaking on the occasion, Zuber Ahmad Bhat emphasized the importance of promoting responsible sanitation practices within the hospitality sector, particularly in a tourism-centric district like Srinagar. He highlighted that the implementation of the Swachhata Green Leaf Rating framework will contribute towards strengthening cleanliness, improving environmental sustainability, and enhancing the overall quality of tourism services in the district.

Officers who participated in the meeting were members of the Verification Sub-Committee representing various departments including Revenue, Rural Development/Directorate of Rural Sanitation, Power Development Department, Roads & Buildings Department, Health Department, and Urban Local Bodies, ensuring a comprehensive and transparent verification process.

It was informed that the committee will soon undertake field visits to hospitality establishments to verify the current certification status based on the prescribed SGLR indicators and submit its report accordingly.
