Department of Agriculture Poonch organizes gender sensitization workshop under JKCIP

POONCH, MARCH 14: The Department of Agriculture, Poonch, today organized a training cum workshop on Gender Sensitization here on Government Degree College Campus. The event was held under the Jammu and Kashmir Competitiveness Improvement of Agriculture & Allied Sectors projects (JKCIP) and witnessed enthusiastic participation from a large gathering of 200 individuals from across the district including Krishi Sakhis of Natural farming cluster, self-help group, Krishi Udhyamis, members of youth clubs, female students of Government Degree College Poonch.

The College Principal presided over the event as Chief Guest and formally inaugurated the workshop.
In his address, he highlighted the pivotal role of women in nation-building and emphasized the importance of self-reliance and economic empowerment for women encouraging financial independence and confidence buildup among them. He also underscores women’s contributions to agriculture, nutrition, entrepreneurship, and rural economy. He stressed the need for gender-sensitive approaches in farming practices and called for active involvement of women in JKCIP initiatives to uplift district communities.

Speaking on the occasion, Chief Agriculture Officer Jograj Singh Slathia, highlighted the significance of women’s engagement in shaping a forward-looking agricultural ecosystem. He urged participants to utilize the training for community development, with a focus on gender equality, environmental awareness and climate change mitigation. “The JKCIP project is a transformative step towards integrating innovation, digital tools, and sustainable practices such as precision farming into agriculture, empowering women as agri-leaders,” he noted.

He observed that Krishi Sakhis, SHGs, Youth clubs, and FPOs could play a major role in promoting online services, marketing of local produce, plantation drives, waste management, and awareness activities related to the project.
Qurrat-ul-ain, State Taxes Officer, Joyti Chowdhary, Assistant Director, Handicraft, Tabbasum Naz, Assistant Professor, GDC, Amjad Babbar, Assistant Professor, Government Degree College also delivered lecture on the gender equality, eliminating discrimination and participation of women farmer in Agriculture and their empowerment in Agriculture and allied sectors.

A detailed presentation on the achievement of the women farmers was also delivered. The proceedings of the event were conducted by S Charanjeet Singh Raina, SMS-SDL, who delivered a detailed opening lecture on JKCIP project and women centric initiatives taken by the Agriculture and allied sectors.
