POONCH, MARCH 14: The Department of Social Welfare, Poonch organised a Nasha Mukt Khel Mela at Government Higher Secondary School Seri Khawaja under Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan, spreading the message “Say Yes to Life, No to Drugs.”
More than 300 student athletes enthusiastically participated in the sports competitions including Kabaddi, Kho Kho, Volleyball, Badminton and Shot Put. The participants displayed remarkable energy, discipline and sportsmanship during the event.
The programme was organised on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Ashok Kumar Sharma, who has emphasised taking such awareness and youth engagement activities to rural and far flung areas. Earlier, the department organised a similar programme at Government Higher Secondary School Chandak.
The Principal of the institution, former PRI members, local youth and residents of the area appreciated the initiative of the Social Welfare Department, stating that such activities help in channelising the energy of youth towards sports and healthy lifestyles, keeping them away from drug abuse. A large number of locals witnessed the mela and encouraged the participating athletes. Refreshments were also provided to all the participants.
Earlier,District Social Welfare Officer Khalil A. Banday welcomed the guests and thanked the school administration, staff, students and athletes for their cooperation and active participation.
