BANDIPORA, APRIL 10: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Bandipora-1 today organized a training programme on “Nutritional Empowerment of Adolescent Girls Through Balanced Diet Promotion” in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Association of Social Workers with the objective of creating awareness among adolescent girls regarding the importance of balanced nutrition, dietary diversification, and adoption of healthy food practices for improved health and well-being.
The programme was attended by Prof. Raihana Habib Kanth, Director Extension SKUAST-Kashmir, who delivered a comprehensive and insightful lecture on the significance of proper nutrition during adolescence. The Director highlighted that adolescence is a critical stage of growth requiring adequate nutrition for proper physical, mental, and overall development. She also appreciated the efforts of KVK Bandipora-1 in addressing nutritional challenges through effective extension programmes. She further highlighted the role of KVK Bandipora-1 in empowering rural women and adolescent girls through capacity building initiatives and encouraged them to actively participate in various vocational training programmes being organized by the Kendra.
On the occasion, Dr. Tariq Sultan, Head, KVK Bandipora-1, emphasized the importance of nutritional awareness among adolescent girls and highlighted the role of kitchen gardening and dietary diversification in ensuring household nutritional security. He further stressed the need for continuous awareness programmes to address malnutrition at the grassroots level.
During the technical sessions, Dr. Tahir Saleem, SMS Vegetable Science delivered a detailed presentation on the role of vegetables in balanced nutrition and encouraged kitchen gardening practices.
Dr. Kulsum Bhat, Project Manager, J&K Association of Social Workers, played a key role in mobilizing adolescent girl participants and emphasized the importance of such awareness initiatives in promoting health, hygiene, and informed dietary practices among young girls.
The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from adolescent girls, who actively engaged in discussions, interacted with experts, and gained valuable awareness regarding nutrition, health, and hygiene. Informational guidance was provided to ensure better understanding and practical adoption of balanced dietary practices in adolescent girls daily lives.
