PULWAMA, MAY 08: As part of the ongoing 100-day campaign under the Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan, a series of awareness and outreach activities were conducted today across District Pulwama to spread awareness against drug abuse and promote a healthy and drug-free society.

A mega awareness programme was organised at Panchayat Halqa Machama Tral with enthusiastic participation from various sections of society including youth, social organisations, educational institutions and local residents.

During the programme, speakers highlighted the harmful effects of substance abuse and stressed the importance of collective efforts in eliminating the menace from society.

The participants also took Nasha Mukt pledge during the programme pledging to work towards building a healthy and drug-free society. On the occasion, a signature campaign was organised wherein officers and participants marked their collective resolve against drug abuse. The programme later culminated with a padyatra aimed at spreading the message of a drug-free lifestyle in society.

Similarly, awareness sessions were organised at Ladhoo Pampore and Malikpora Pulwama, where officers and resource persons interacted with participants and highlighted the ill effects of drug abuse. The programmes witnessed participation from local residents, youth and students and included pledge-taking ceremonies and awareness activities.

Further, Self Help Group (SHG) members organised an awareness session and padyatra at Parigam Newa to sensitise the public regarding the harmful consequences of drug abuse and encourage community participation in the anti-drug campaign.

Besides, continuing its enforcement measures under the campaign, the Drug Control Department, in coordination with Jammu and Kashmir Police, seized a substantial quantity of Pregabalin 300 mg capsules amounting to around Rs. 2.53 Lakh, from an unlicensed individual at Old Bus Stand Pulwama. Initial investigation revealed that the stock had been procured illegally with the intention of sale through unregulated channels.

Furthermore, one retail and one wholesale medical establishment were closed on the spot during inspections, for non-maintenance of mandatory records.

Meanwhile, as part of its action plan under the campaign, the Department of Youth Services and Sports (YSS) Pulwama continued a series of sports events, awareness drives, pledge ceremonies, quiz competitions and padyatras across the district.

In Zone Pulwama, zonal-level badminton tournament for girls and quiz competitions were organised at UPS Chewakalan.

In Zone Tahab, quiz competitions were conducted at HSS Arihal and GMS Gulzarpora, while chess and volleyball competitions were organised at GMS Rakh Litter.
Awareness programmes were also conducted at UPS Kawni, UPS Grawgund and MS Tumlehal.

In Zone Awantipora, zonal-level badminton tournament for U-14 and U-17 boys was organised at HSS Noorpora. Similarly, in Zone Tral, zonal-level U-17 girls’ volleyball and badminton tournaments were conducted at Bajwani Tral.

People from all walks of life participated in the activities with enthusiasm and appreciated the continued efforts being undertaken under the campaign to build a healthy, aware and prosperous society.
