UDHAMPUR, MAY 18: Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj today organised a District-Level Workshop on the implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules–2026 at Udhampur. Deputy Commissioner Udhampur, Minga Sherpa, attended the workshop as the chief guest.
At the outset, ACP Dr. Ashwani Hansa delivered a detailed PowerPoint presentation highlighting the district’s preparedness and action plan for the effective implementation of the Solid Waste Management Rules–2026.
The workshop was attended by IAS Probationer Shagun Singh ACP Udhampur, all BDos, Pyt secretaries, PAAs.
During the workshop, detailed deliberations were held on the effective enforcement of the Solid Waste Management Rules in compliance with the directions of the Supreme Court. Discussions focused on enhancing waste management mechanisms in rural areas through coordinated and sustainable efforts.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the concerned departments to launch intensive IEC awareness campaigns across all Panchayats regarding source segregation of wastes. He also instructed the authorities to conduct comprehensive surveys and submit plans for solid waste management and door-to-door waste collection at the earliest.
Emphasising strict adherence to the Supreme Court guidelines regarding segregation of waste at source, the DC directed all Block Development Officers to ensure effective implementation of the Swm2026 rules in their respective jurisdictions.
Necessary directions were also issued regarding awareness generation, timely waste collection, establishment of proper waste management infrastructure, BWG identification and scientific disposal of solid waste.
The DC stressed the need for proper transportation, management and scientific disposal systems to ensure a cleaner and healthier environment.
He further urged the concerned officers to intensify public awareness regarding source segregation, responsible waste disposal practices and reduction in the use of non-biodegradable materials. He directed all BDOs to identify and map at least 1 Dump site in their respective jurisdiction for waste collection.
