REASI, AUGUST 07: District Development Commissioner Reasi Kumar Abhishek, today conducted an on-site inspection of the landslide and subsidence-affected area at Balini along the Katra-Reasi Road (NH-144) to assess the damage caused by recent heavy rainfall and review the restoration and protection measures being undertaken by the concerned agencies.
The DDC was accompanied by SDM Katra Piyush Dhotra, SE PWD and other concerned officers.
During the visit, the DDC inspected the affected stretch and took detailed feedback from the officers regarding the extent of damage, the present condition of the road and the measures proposed for its stabilization and restoration. He emphasized the need for immediate and effective interventions to ensure the safety of commuters and maintain uninterrupted connectivity along the important road stretch.
He also inspected the bridges at Nau Devi and Balini and reviewed the drainage arrangements at both locations. He directed the PWD authorities to ensure proper and effective drainage on the bridges and develop suitable slopes and drainage channels to prevent water stagnation and facilitate the smooth discharge of rainwater. He stressed that adequate drainage measures must be incorporated to minimize the risk of further damage during heavy rainfall.
At the landslide-affected site in Balini, the DDC directed the concerned officers to finalize the protection design within days and initiate the necessary protective measures at the earliest. He emphasized that the restoration works should be technically sound and take into consideration the vulnerability of the area to further landslides and subsidence during the ongoing monsoon season.
He further directed the SE PWD to personally monitor the affected locations and maintain close supervision of the restoration and protection works. The executing agencies were asked to ensure timely completion of the works while adhering to prescribed quality and safety standards. He also stressed the importance of continuous monitoring of vulnerable stretches, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall and directed the officers to remain prepared for immediate response in case of any further deterioration.
