Patriotic fervour grips Ramban amid celebration of 80th Independence Day

RAMBAN, AUGUST 15: The 80th Independence Day was celebrated with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour at the District Police Lines (DPL), Ramban. The ceremony commenced with the singing of Vande Mataram.

Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan hoisted the National Flag, followed by the singing of the National Anthem. The Deputy Commissioner inspected the parade and took the salute from the marchpast comprising contingents from the Jammu and Kashmir Police, CRPF, SSB, IRP, FPF, Home Guards, NCC and students of various educational institutions.

A colourful cultural programme presented by the school students on cultural and patriotic themes enthralled the audience present.

The event was graced by Commander 11 Sector RR Ajay Pal Singh, SSP Arun Gupta, SSP Traffic Raja Adil Hameed Ganie, ADC Varunjeet Singh Charak, Commandant IRP Sukhdev Raj, Commandant 84 Battalion CRPF Vijay Singh Khatana, officers from line departments, prominent citizens and people from all walks of life.

In his address, the Deputy Commissioner paid rich tributes to the freedom fighters and martyrs who made the supreme sacrifice for the country’s independence. He emphasised the importance of unity, integrity and patriotism and encouraged the youth to contribute meaningfully to the progress and development of the nation.

The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the efforts of the District Administration and the general public in making the Har Ghar Tiranga Campaign, Vande Mataram activities and plantation drives vibrant and high-spirited public movements.

The Deputy Commissioner gave a brief account of the major developmental projects completed in the district during the previous and current financial year. He also shared the details of new projects sanctioned for the district. ‘Developmental works worth ₹40 crore were completed under the last year’s District Capex Plan, while a District Capex Plan of ₹48.25 crore has been sanctioned for 2,146 approved works for the financial year 2026-27,” he informed.

“The Rural Development Department (RDD generated 5.90 lakh person-days of employment under the VB-G RAM G programme, while 2,160 developmental works were completed at a cost of ₹22 crore,” he shared.

The Deputy Commissioner also highlighted the achievements of PWD, Jal Shakti, PMGSY, JPDCL and other departments, besides informing the gathering about the accomplishments and developmental plans of Social Welfare, ICDS, Tourism, Urban Development, Education, Health, Agriculture and allied departments.

The Deputy Commissioner said that a number of tunnels and viaducts have been completed along Ramban-Banihal section of the National Highway, while work on the remaining projects is in progress.

He also highlighted the achievements of the district under the 100-Day Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan, stating that concerted efforts were being made to strengthen awareness, prevention and community participation against drug abuse.

Later, the Chief Guest, along with other dignitaries, felicitated the participants of the cultural programmes and march-past, besides officers, officials and students for their outstanding performance and exemplary contribution in their respective fields.

Meanwhile, At Banihal: Sub-Divisional Magistrate Banihal Mohammad Naseeb Bajraan hoisted the National Flag at the Sub-Divisional headquarters. The ceremony was followed by the National Anthem and a ceremonial parade by participating contingents.

At Ramsoo: Sub-Divisional Magistrate Ramsoo Syed Mazahir Hussain Shah hoisted the National Flag at the Sub-Divisional headquarters. The ceremony witnessed a parade and patriotic programmes, reflecting the spirit of national pride and unity.

At Gool: Sub-Divisional Magistrate Gool Imtiaz Ahmed hoisted the National Flag at the Sub-Divisional headquarters. The celebrations included a ceremonial parade and various patriotic activities.
Similar Independence Day celebrations were held at Tehsil, Block, Panchayat and institutional levels across District Ramban.
