REASI, AUGUST 15: The spirit of patriotism and national pride ran high across Reasi as the district joined the nation in celebrating the 80th Independence Day-2026 with great enthusiasm and patriotic fervour at the General Zorawar Singh Sports Stadium. The celebrations commenced with Deputy Commissioner Reasi Kumar Abhishek hoisting the National Flag, as the Tricolour soared high amid an atmosphere charged with pride, patriotism and national spirit.
The Deputy Commissioner thereafter inspected the parade and took the salute of the impressive March Past presented by contingents of the J&K Police, CRPF, NCC cadets and students from various educational institutions.
A colourful cultural programme was presented by students of various educational institutions, featuring patriotic and theme-based performances highlighting the rich cultural heritage, unity and composite culture of Jammu and Kashmir. The performances were widely appreciated by the audience.
Addressing the gathering, Deputy Commissioner Kumar Abhishek extended warm greetings to the people of Reasi on the occasion of Independence Day and paid rich tributes to the freedom fighters and national heroes whose sacrifices made the country’s independence possible.
Highlighting the development journey of Reasi, the Deputy Commissioner said that concerted efforts are underway to accelerate infrastructure development and ensure balanced growth across urban and rural areas of the district. He said priority is being accorded to strengthening road connectivity, healthcare, education, drinking water supply, sanitation, power and other essential services, with special focus on improving facilities in remote and underserved areas. He stated that various ongoing projects under CAPEX and other government schemes are being expedited, while emphasis is also being laid on modern agriculture, allied sectors, tourism, skill development, entrepreneurship and livelihood generation to create sustainable economic opportunities for the people. He further said that strengthening connectivity and basic infrastructure will not only improve public services but also unlock the tourism and economic potential of Reasi, enabling the district to move towards inclusive, sustainable and people-centric development.
Mementos were also presented to the participants, officials and individuals associated with the Independence Day celebrations in recognition of their contribution and participation in making the event a grand success.
The ceremony was attended by MLA Reasi Kuldeep Raj Dubey, MLA Katra Baldev Raj Sharma, SSP Mukund Tibrewal, ADDC Krishan Lal, ADC Rakesh Kumar and other district officers.
