SAMBA, SEPTEMBER 22: Deputy Commissioner Samba Ayushi Sudan today convened a meeting to review the implementation of Swachhata Hi Seva Campaign 2026 in the district and to give further impetus to the campaign through coordinated efforts and enhanced Jan Bhagidari.
ACD Rafiq Ahmad Jaral gave a detailed presentation on the campaign calendar issued by the MoHUA, Government of India, informing that the campaign commenced on September 17, 2026 and would culminate on Gandhi Jayanti, October 2, 2026.
He briefed the chair about the activities already undertaken and the forthcoming action plan. An Awareness Van has been launched, while Swachhata Paatshalas featuring debates, painting and art activities have engaged students and youth in spreading the message of cleanliness and civic responsibility. Students have also been taken on exposure visits to SBM assets to familiarise them with their utility. Besides, Cleanliness Target Units have been identified and are being transformed into clean and aesthetically appealing spaces.
The Deputy Commissioner directed the BDOs and officials of Education, Youth Services, Health and Social Welfare, to pull out all the stops in implementing the planned activities with greater community participation. She called for initiatives involving youth, citizens and NGOs, including sports activities, welfare of Safai Mitras, cleanliness of public places, markets, offices, government assets and water bodies, besides creating awareness about Solid Waste Management Rules.
Special emphasis was laid on cleanliness of tourist destinations on World Tourism Day, September 27, organising a Plastic Recycling Mela, convening Special Gram Sabhas on Swachh Bharat Diwas, promoting plantation under “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam”, and transforming identified garbage dumping grounds into recreational spaces. She stressed that the campaign should become a catalyst for lasting behavioural change and not remain merely a ceremonial exercise.
Besides BDOs, heads of Degree Colleges, CEO, CMO and DYSSO attended the meeting and apprised the Deputy Commissioner of the arrangements and proposed activities, reaffirming a coordinated and whole-of-community approach towards making the campaign a resounding success.
