JAMMU, SEPTEMBER 22: The District Employment & Counselling Centre (DE&CC), Jammu on Tuesday organised a Job Fair-cum-Apprenticeship Mela here at the Employment Complex, Toph Sherkhania, with the objective of providing employment and apprenticeship opportunities to unemployed youth and facilitate direct interaction between jobseekers and prospective employers.
The Job Fair witnessed participation from companies and establishments representing various sectors, offering more than 500 employment opportunities across diverse job roles. A large number of youth participated in the event and interacted with participating employers. After the recruitment and screening process, 117 candidates were shortlisted for various employment opportunities.
A special awareness and registration session on the National Apprenticeship Promotion Scheme (NAPS) was also organized during the event to acquaint youth with apprenticeship opportunities, the registration process and the benefits of apprenticeship-based learning. Around 110 candidates registered for NAPS.
The programme also witnessed the participation of representatives from the District Industries Centre (DIC), Jammu; Labour Department; Skill Development Department and various participating industries, particularly for facilitating awareness, registration and the creation and mapping of requisite apprenticeship vacancies under NAPS. As part of the on-the-spot facilitation process, 9 apprenticeship contracts were generated on the spot, providing candidates with an opportunity to move towards formal apprenticeship engagement.
In addition, an awareness session on Mission YUVA was conducted to apprise the participating youth about entrepreneurship opportunities, financial assistance, institutional support and other avenues available under the initiative. The session encouraged young participants to explore self-employment and entrepreneurship as viable career pathways alongside wage employment and apprenticeship opportunities.
The event served as a common platform for jobseekers, employers, industries and government departments to facilitate employment, apprenticeship registration and entrepreneurship awareness. The initiative also highlighted the importance of coordinated efforts among various stakeholders in creating meaningful employment and skill-development opportunities for the youth of Jammu.
The DE&CC Jammu reaffirmed its commitment to organizing such employment-oriented initiatives and strengthening linkages between youth, industries, skill-development institutions and government schemes to facilitate better employment and career opportunities for the aspiring workforce.
