3 drug peddlers arrested in Kulgam, Baramulla: Police

Srinagar, Oct 09: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Monday said to have arrested three drug peddlers in Kulgam & Baramulla while a huge quantity of contraband substances including 161 kilograms of grinded cannabis was recovered from their possession.

In Kulgam, acting upon a specific information regarding presence of contraband substance generated by Kulgam police, a special team led by SHO Police Station Qaimoh under the close supervision of SSP Kulgam was constituted, a police spokesman said in a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO).

“The team raided the suspected place (residential house) of Mashooq Ahmad Sheikh son of Ghulam Qadir Sheikh resident of Khudwani, Qaimoh in presence of executive magistrate Qaimoh.

Officers were able to recover 161 Kgs of grinded Cannabis like contraband substance and cash amounting to Rs one lakh (believed to be proceeds of narcotic crime).

The accused person was arrested and shifted to police station where he remains in custody. Regarding the incident, a case FIR No 66/2023 under relevant sections of law stands registered at Police Station Qaimoh,” police said.

In yet another incident, a Police party headed by IC PP Mirbazar at a checkpoint established at Manigam on NHW-44 intercepted a suspected person Gull Mohd Dar son of Ghulam Ahmad Dar resident of Churat carrying a nylon bag, who tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully, police said.

“During checking the police party recovered 4.3 Kgs of Poppy Straw like contraband substance from his possession.

In this regard a Case FIR No. 221/2023 under relevant sections of law stands registered in Police Station Qazigund and investigation has been taken up,” police said.

“In Baramulla, a police party of Police Post Delina headed by IC PP Delina under the supervision of DySP Hqrs Baramulla at a checkpoint established at Chennad Baramulla intercepted a person identified as Showkat Ahmad Guroo son of Gh Ahmad resident of Naidkhai Hajin. During search, 70 grams of contraband substance Charas was recovered from his possession.

Accordingly, a case under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Baramulla and investigation has been initiated,” the statement added.

“We urge the common masses that if you witness drug peddling or any other crime anywhere near you, feel free to contact nearest police establishment or dial 112.

People are requested to cooperate with police in curbing the menace of drugs from the society. We reassure the community members that police will act tough against the criminals as per law,” police said—(KNO)
