SAMBA, MAY 08: Red Ribbon Club and First Aid Committee of Government Degree College Ramgarh organised a one-day awareness lecture on Organ Donation to mark Red Cross Day.

The awareness event was held in collaboration with the State Organ & Tissue Transplant Organization (SOTTO), Jammu & Kashmir, Superspeciality Hospital GMC Jammu functioning under the National Organ Transplant Program (NOTP), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, GOI.
The program was conducted under the guidance and supervision of the Principal of the college Prof (Dr). Geetanjali Andotra. Speaking on the occasion, she motivated the students to be part of this noble cause of organ donation.

The resource person of the awareness program was Anshu Sharma (IEC, SOTTO), who gave a PPT presentation about the functions of SOTTO in J&K and different types of organ donation like liver, cornea, kidney, etc and different types of donors like deceased/dead donors. She emphasized that the need for organ donors has increased significantly over the years. She said that voluntary organ donation is the only way to meet the huge demand for organs. She also focused on Brain Stem Death (BSD) wherein vital organs are taken only after the person is declared Brain dead. She added that people die due to the non-availability of organs for transplant so it is very important to donate organs. She highlighted the various aspects of organ donation which is a significant service to society and mankind. It is a unique opportunity for the donors to donate their organs to save precious lives.

The event was coordinated by Dr. Snobar, Convener, First Aid Committee and Prof. Sandeep Kumari, Red Ribbon Club.
The welcome address and vote of thanks was presented by Prof. (Dr.) Shivali Panjgotra, HoD, EVS.
All the faculty members and students attended the awareness lecture session and many among them also took the pledge ‘Donate Organs, Save Lives’ and received their certificates.
