JAMMU, JUNE 05: Government departments, educational institutions and district administrations organised varied awareness and promotional activities on environment conservation and sustainable development to observe World Environment Day
UDHAMPUR: World Environment Day was celebrated today at the District Headquarter Udhampur with special cleanliness drives and events aimed at raising public awareness about environmental protection.
Deputy Commissioner Saloni Rai visited the District Water Testing Laboratory, where she planted a tree. She inspected and enquired about the functioning of the wet and bacteriological labs.
A series of awareness activities, plantation and cleanliness drives were conducted by the Rural Development Department and other line departments with active participation of general public
SAMBA: The District Administration of Samba celebrated World Environment Day 2024 with great enthusiasm and commitment to the environment. This year’s theme, “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience,” was at the heart of the day’s activities held under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner, Abhishek Sharma.
A massive plantation drive was conducted in the premises of the DC Office Samba jointly by the Geology & Mining and the Forest Departments.
Meanwhile, plantation drives were conducted by Samba Forest Division in Collaboration with District Legal Services Authority, Police, District Administration and 157 Inf Bn in District Court Complex Samba. The plantation drive was conducted under the chairmanship of Adnan Sayeed, Pr. District and Session Judge. Various plants like Bahera (Terminalia bellarica), Satpatra (Alstonia scholaris), Tacoma stans and Araucaria were planted by Sub Judges, Munsiff judges, Advocates and Bar Association Samba. At the end of the occasion 20 saplings were also distributed among the public.
KISHTWAR: The World Environment Day was celebrated today across Kishtwar district under the guidance of Deputy Commissioner Dr Devansh Yadav and in alignment to this year’s theme “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience,” Key stakeholders including the Forest Department, Rural Development Department, District Administration, CVPP authorities, GDCs, school students, civil society members, and NGOs among others were involved in the extensive plantation and cleanliness drive across all Amrit Sarovars in the district’s 13 blocks
REASI: To promote tourism and raise environmental awareness, the District Administration Reasi, in collaboration with the Tourism Department, celebrated World Environment Day at Tourist Village Chinka. The event highlighted the natural beauty of the region and emphasized the importance of sustainable tourism practices. District Development Commissioner Reasi, Vishesh Mahajan was the chief guest.
The event was marked by a variety of activities and initiatives aimed at promoting environmental awareness and sustainable tourism. Departmental stalls were installed to inform and educate the public about different government schemes. Attendees from adjoining locations took advantage of these informational stalls, gaining valuable insights into the benefits and services offered by different departments.
Adding to the excitement of the day, a variety of adventure activities were organized by the Department of Tourism, significantly contributing to the local economy and promoting Reasi as a destination for adventure enthusiasts.
Directorate of Horticulture Jammu: A grand event was organised at Directorate of Horticulture Jammu to celebrate World Environment Day under the chairmanship of Director Horticulture C. L Sharma. More than 100 farmers including women drawn from different parts of Jammu District were part of the event.
Further, the fruit plants of different fruit crops were distributed among the participants.
Department of Wildlife Protection hosted a trek event on Manda Trail Road Jammu to celebrate World Environment Day 2024 with the theme “Land restoration, desertification and drought resilience” followed by slogan “Our Land. Our Future, we are “Generation Restoration.”
A number of Morning Walkers, Students of Jammu University, Visitors to Manda Trail Road, prominent persons of the area and staff of Wildlife Division Jammu participated in the trek.
Forest Protection Force Department J&K celebrated World Environment Day in all 23 FPF Gamma Units across J&K under this year’s theme “Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience”. Multiple activities were held across J&K by Forest Protection Force personnel in their respective jurisdictions which include plantation drives, green marches, cleaning of Campuses and plastic free drives.
The main event was held at FPF Headquarter Complex Jammu. A green march was held by FPF Personnel from FPF Headquarters to Environmental Park Raika Jammu and en-route all plastic bags and other plastic based products were collected and disposed off. Later, a plantation drive was held in the campus of FPF Headquarter Jammu.

Kathua Forest Division celebrated World Environment Day 2024 in collaboration with Government Model HSS (Girls) Kathua at School premises.
2 Saplings of Peepal tree were planted with all rituals.
Likewise, an Anti Polythene drive was organized at Lakhanpur APCP. The officials distributed cotton bags among locals to discourage polythene.
Nowshera Forest Division hosted a series of programmes to mark the celebration of World Environment Day 2024 by Nowshera Forest Division.
Sunderbani Forest Range celebrated world environment day by planting Rudraksh trees in ITI/ADC complex, followed by a cleanliness drive at Forest Range office Complex. The
Pollution Control Committee Ramban conducted a significant plantation drive under the Mission Life programme. As many as 350 saplings were planted to enhance the local environment and promote sustainability.
The event saw active participation from community members, volunteers, and employees of both organizations. Together, they worked diligently to plant saplings across selected areas, ensuring proper spacing and care to maximize the survival and growth of the young trees.

DLSA Kathua: District Legal Services Authority Kathua, under the aegis of J&K Legal Services Authority and as per the Action plan issued by J&K Legal Services Authority, (JKLSA) for the month of June, 2024 and also under the guidance and overall supervision of its Chairman (Principal District & Sessions Judge Kathua) Ashok Kumar Shavan, organised a plantation drive to observe the ‘World Environment Day’ at Ashoka Law College Kathua.
The Chairman District Legal Services Authority Kathua- the chief guest inaugurated the programme.
In his address, Chairman, DLSA Kathua encouraged everyone to plant more trees and preserve the environment. He also raised awareness about protecting nature.
Earlier, Lecturer Suparan Sharma presented a welcome address besides Vote of thanks was delivered by Lecturer Ritika Sharma.
The programme was attended by all the faculty members of Ashoka Law College Kathua, Staff of Pr. District and Sessions Court Kathua, Officers of Legal Aid Defence Counsel Kathua, Staff and PLVs of DLSA Kathua.
DLSA Samba: In a significant initiative towards preservation and restoration of our depleting Environment and to stimulate the world wide awareness of Environment Conservation, the District Legal Services Authority Samba under the guidance and overall supervision of Adnan Sayeed, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority Samba (also Pr. Distt. & Sessions Judge Samba) organized a tree plantation drive today in collaboration with Forest Division, Samba at District Court Complex, Samba.

The plantation drive was formally inaugurated by Adnan Sayeed, Chairman, District Legal Services Authority Samba (also Pr. District & Sessions Judge Samba) by planting saplings.
During a special ceremony, the female Advocates of District Court Samba were also presented with a variety of plant saplings by District Legal Services Authority Samba as a symbol of growth, sustainability and nurturing the environment. The objective of organizing the tree plantation drive was to raise awareness as to how these trees are an investment for the future generations that shall provide natural shade in open spaces and provide cleaner air to breathe by increasing green cover.
Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kathua celebrated World Environment Day in Said Sohal village adopted under NICRA project.
The Chief Guest of today’s programme was Director Extension SKUAST Jammu Dr Amrish Vaid. More than 300 farmers actively participated in the programme.
The programme ended with the vote of thanks proposed by Dr. Berjesh Ajrawat.
GCW Parade: To promote environmental sustainability, Government College for Women, Parade Ground has launched a series of initiatives and week-long activities aimed at making the campus plastic-free. The initiatives, unveiled today in conjunction with World Environment Day, mark a significant step in the college’s ongoing commitment to promoting eco-friendly practices and raising awareness about environmental issues.
The college organised a series of events like Pledge taking, screening a documentary on plastic pollution, creating awareness among the community where around 100 NSS Volunteers, Eco Club Volunteers and Science Club volunteers participated.
Government Degree College Vijaypur: Department of Environmental Sciences and Eco Club (Green Warriors)of Government Degree College Vijaypur organized various activities to celebrate World Environment Day 2024.
Nearly 20 Green Volunteers of the college actively participated in the poster making competition on the theme: Land restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience.
Students of the college along with Principal and Faculty members installed earthen water pots across the campus to provide our feathered friends with access to water during rising temperatures.
GDC Marheen: The NSS Unit and Eco Club of GDC Marheen celebrated Environment Day by organizing a seminar on the theme “Restore Our Earth” in the college premises for creating awareness among the students.
A large number of Volunteers and students participated in the event. Shania, Koushika and Ritika shared their views on the mentioned theme. The staff members presented during the programme were Prof. Sandeep, Dr. Balbinder, Dr. Munisha and Dr. Shallu.
GDC Ramgarh: NSS unit ‘Prabha’ and EVS department of GDC Ramgarh jointly celebrated World Environmental Day.
The event began with plantation drive, Saplings of Amla and Neem trees were planted on the campus.
A webinar was also organized by EVS Department wherein, the resource person Dr. Shivali Panjgotra, HoD, EVS delivered an extensive and informative Powerpoint presentation, emphasizing the significance of environmental conservation and the urgent need to address land degradation and enhance drought resilience.
Government Degree College (GDC) Basohli, in collaboration with the NCC unit of 4 J&K Battalion, celebrated World Environment Day 2024 with a series of impactful activities aimed at raising awareness about the critical need to protect and preserve the environment.
The event was held in and around the college campus and included a Plantation Drive, Cleanliness Drive, Poster Making, Environment Awareness Rally and a Pledge to Protect the Environment.
GDC Mahanpur: NSS Unit of GDC Mahanpur, in collaboration with the Department of Physical Education celebrated World Environment Day with this year’s theme “Land Restoration, Desertification, and Drought Resilience.”

Plantation, installation of water pots for birds and cleaning of dry pine needles were some of the environmental measures conducted in the campus. Many species of medicinal, ornamental and flowering plants were planted in the campus. Moreover, many water pots were installed in different areas of the College for the birds.
GDC Dharmari: The National Service Scheme Unit of Government Degree College, Dharmari celebrated World Environment Day by organising a bunch of activities like Plantation Drive, Slogan Writing and Poster-making Competition.
The day started with the Plantation drive in which Sub-Divisional Magistrate Dharmari, Tariq Aziz, ASP Arnas Irfan Khan, Divisional Forest Officer Mahore, Qamar Rashid Khan (SFS), Principal of the College Dr. Preetpal Kour and NSS Program Officer Prof. Ajay Kumar along with other staff members and volunteers planted different saplings of plants in the new campus of the college.
Second Program of the day was Slogan Writing Competition on the topic ‘Save the Environment’ in which Rubeena Akhter of BA Semester 4th got the first position, where as Abida Parveen and Manju Kousser both from BA Semester 2nd remained at second and third place.
The last Program of the day was Poster-making competition in which Sapna Devi from Semester 4th clinched the first place while Shaina Akhter and Mohd Nasar stood second and third spot respectively.
Government College for Women Udhampur: A mega plantation drive was organized by NCC Battalion at Government College for Women (GCW) Udhampur in collaboration with the District Forest Office Udhampur.
The NCC cadets actively participated in the plantation drive, demonstrating their commitment to environmental conservation. They not only planted numerous saplings but also adopted the trees, pledging to take care of them and ensure their growth. The plantation was followed by a nukkad natak displayed at the institution. This adoption initiative is part of a long-term strategy to nurture the saplings into mature trees.
GDC Kathua: NSS and NCC units of GDC Kathua in collaboration with the Department of Environmental Science of the College celebrated World Environment Day by organizing a series of activities including a Symposium, Poster presentation, Plantation Drive and Save Environment Pledge ceremony. The celebration was held on the global theme of “Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience” under the patronage of worthy Principal, Prof. Seema Mir.
GDC Kishtwar: A powerful play “Mein Dharti” was staged in observance of World Environment Day at Government Degree College Kishtwar.
The play, a collaborative effort of the Department of Environmental Sciences, the NSS Unit, Kiru HE Power Project CVPPL, and JKPCC Kishtwar, delivered a thought-provoking message about the human impact on the planet, showcasing the destructive consequences of human greed through captivating storytelling.
Deputy Commissioner Dr. Devansh Yadav, the chief guest commended GDC Kishtwar for its impactful production and urged the college to continue its environmental initiatives in collaboration with the CVPP authorities and district administration.
GLDM Degree College Hiranagar organized a guest lecture on the World Environment Day. The theme of the world environment day 2024 is “land restoration, Desertification & Drought Resilience”.
The Resource Person on the occasion was Assistant Professor, Department of Geography, Govt. Degree college, Billawar. Dr Amrik Singh.
A poster making competition was also organized in which about 15 students participated with great enthusiasm. The first prize was bagged by Anu Sambyal (Semester IV), Suhani Sharma (semester II) won second prize & third prize was given to Taniya Sharma (Semester II) and Deepka Chambyal (semester II).
