Anantnag, Aug 20: An influential tribal leader from the Kokarnag area of Anantnag district, Choudhary Haroon Khatana has resigned from the Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) and is likely to join the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Talking to news agency, Khatana said that he has resigned from all the party positions, including the general secretary post and basic membership of the DPAP.

When asked about the speculation regarding his joining with PDP, he said several parties have contacted him, but he will decide the future course of action after meeting his workers tomorrow.

The Kokernag assembly segment of the Anantnag district is now reserved for Scheduled Tribes (ST) following the recent delimitation exercise.

Sources told KNO that he is likely to join PDP, with a final announcement expected within one or two days.

Choudhary was previously associated with the National Conference during DDC elections, however, he resigned from the party and joined the DPAP.
